This activity aims to support the Government of Tanzania in enhancing the resilience of the national power sector to climate and weather-related risks. The World Bank; under its Developing Climate Resilient Infrastructure Systems in the Africa Eastern and Southern Region (DeCrises) and the Tanzania Energy PASA programs will assist the Ministry of Energy (Mainland) and Ministry of Water; Energy and Minerals (Zanzibar) as well as relevant stakeholders to operationalize the aspects related to climate resilience in Tanzania. The activity involves a comprehensive climate vulnerability assessment of Tanzania’s power sector; encompassing both mainland and Zanzibar; and will propose priority resilience measures and actionable investments as well as an implementation plan and institutional measures to build resilience across generation; transmission; and distribution infrastructure. This activity will also review current disaster risk management practices in key utilities (TANESCO and ZECO); provide a 5-year resilience investment plan; and implement a capacity-building component to support long-term sustainability in Tanzania.
